Debunking the Nephilim myth

that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Gen6:2, 4

Simply examining the Hebrew words used in these passages dispels the Myth that Angels took human wives and produced a perverted half-breed offspring of Giants. Sons (of God) is the Hebrew term for man, male child, and it is used in many OT passages referring to God's people, not angels, (Exodus 4:22-23; Deut. 14:1; 32:19; Psalms 82:6-7; Isaiah 1:2; 45:11; 43:6; 63:16; Jeremiah 31:9; Hosea 11:1) Adam is called a son of God in Lk3:38. Therefore the use of it here, against the weight of scripture, is NOT proof that it is specifically means Angels. Rather it is more likely speaking of the Sons of God (righteous men) marrying pagan women and producing a rebellious offspring. Evidence of this kind of mingling was always a stumbling block to the Nation of Israel, that's why it was forbidden (Num25:1-5, 31:16-17) Clearly in Gen4, Seth, the appointed son, stood in direct contrast to Cain and their linage was not to mix. What brought about the tragedy in Gen6 that lead to the destruction of the world was this mixing, the righteous marrying pagans and to ever increase their numbers (in order to maintain their power base) they began the practice of polygamy (Gen4:19-24) also violating God's intended purpose of marriage, Gen2:24, Malachi2:15. Its important to remember that this inner-marriage brought down King Solomon (a Son of God) he also saw that the daughters of men (pagans) were fair and took them as his wives and the offspring worshiped false gods corrupting the nation. Angels are not called the sons of God in scripture, but such terms as: messengers, cherubim, and seraphim. The Job1:6 passage 'sons of God presenting themselves before the Lord', cannot be said to be specifically speaking of angels merely because Satan is present. Satan roams the earth, having been cast down in rebellion, (1Pet5:8, Rev12:9) his sway is over men, 1Jh5:19, Job2:2, not angels (he took the rebellious with him) he's called the 'accuser of the brethren' Rev12:10, here he is acting as 'adversary challenging the Lord's boast of Job's faithfulness, so it is put to the test to prove its sincerity. We can only conclude that as a 'roaring lion seeking whom he may devour' he is often prowling among devote men seeking ways to temp them through his limited means.

The Word in question here is 'Giants', 'nephiyl in Hebrew a Root of Naphal', (Strongs H5303) Naphal simply means; fallen, Gen4:6 'Cain, why is thy countenance fallen', Nephilim is a transliteration, not found in the KJV. The term Giants (nephiyl) is also used in Num13:33, that does refer to some kind of Mighty men (perhaps taller than most men of that time) of which the Israeli spies said were great warriors they feared. These were descendants of Anak (fallen men, evil, pagans) These Mighty men are seen throughout OT Scripture: translated Rephaims in: Gen14:5, 15:20, 2Sam5:18, 22, 23:13, 1Chron11:15, 14:9, Giants in: Deut2:11, 20, 3:11, 13, Joshua many times, 2Sam as the Philistines, notably referring to Goliath, 2Sam21:16, and they are also mentioned in 1Chroncils. So without doubt the offspring of this inner-mingling between the Righteous and Wicked had brought about a race of Mighty men, warriors of renown, very large in stature and feared throughout the land. They first appear in Gen6 and again after the flood as shown in the Scripture references. If the myth were true, that God destroyed the earth because of some unholy union between angels and human women, WHERE did they come from AFTER the flood? No one except Noah and eight souls survived, was there a 'Nephilim stowaway on the Ark! Ridiculous of course, but an honest question nonetheless. If all corrupted mankind perished in the great flood, why do 'Giants show up again up to the time of David? Simply the same thing happened again, inner-marriage producing the same results.

Christ Clearly said in each Gospel: Matt22:30-32, Mk12:24-25, Lk20:34-35, 'For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. Angels DO NOT procreate, marriage is for the purpose of procreating, Christ compares the resurrected Saints to the angels, the sexual function is nonexistent.
Also Gen2:3, Scripture expressly teaches that procreation can only be of its own kind, and nothing else. Therefore, every creature that God made to procreate or reproduce did so and does so after its own kind. Nothing in the bible even remotely suggest otherwise. The Bible calls them men of renown, not a twisted version of the Greek mythology as Hercules being the offspring of Zeus! The Nephilim, half angel, half man is a fairy tale conjured in the mind's of men, finding support in the world fantasy tabloid Book of Enoch (written around the 14th Century) and pushed by Pundits today chasing after UFO's, Reptilian creatures, chupacabra, ghosts and spirits.

William Tyndale, back in 1530's, translated the word 'nephal in Gen5:4, as it is the root of nephiyl, 'Tyrants, fallen men, like Cain, who had gone into utter rebellion.

 (Tyrants) There were tyrants in the earth in those days, for the sons of God saw the daughters of men,. The sons of God were the prophets' children, which (though they succeeded their fathers) fell yet from the right way, and thorow falsehood of hypocrisy subdued the world under them, and became tyrants, as the successors of the apostles have played with us..... Read the text again carefully:   

Gen6:5-7 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

If angels were the cause of this catastrophe on earth WHY does God place all the blame on man, wouldn't that be unjust of Him to not mention the perpetrators of this event? It is said He regretted that he made man, not angels, if they were to blame as well, I think that passage would read quite differently. Scripture says in 1Cor10:13 'There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Such a temptation would be 'uncommon' since it (supposedly) only happened in Gen6, and Angelic beings forcing woman to become their wives and bare them children would be 'unbearable with no way of escape since angels are certainly much more powerful than humans. So again we have a direct contradiction of scripture, certainly Tyrants (mighty mean) could force women to become their slaves and bare them children, but this is 'Common throughout history. The stronger subduing the weaker, Giants (if you wish to call them that) have always been among us.

Another passage the Nephilim promoters will bring into question is 2Pet2:4, where it is said that God did not spare the Angels who sinned but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment
claiming these were the wicked angels who took human wives and produced the Nephilim. But this text has absolutely nothing to do with angelic beings having sex with human women. First of all the context is speaking of Noah, a preacher of Righteousness, pleading with the pre-flood generation to turn form their sin before it was too late, since we know there is no repentance for angels, (Heb2:16) Noah could not have possibility been preaching to them, but to the wicked people 'in prison, 1Pet3:19-20, (of hellish bondage) about to perish. Its interesting to note that the word translated 'hell' in the 2Pet2:4 passage is not Hades or even Gehenna (lake of fire) but: tartaroō , (used only in this passage) a reference of a symbolic subterranean region the Greeks considered the abode of the wicked dead. And why would angels 'desire' to look into these thing (procreation) 1Pet1:12, if they CAN'T procreate! The Mystery angels and prophets 'desire to look into is Salvation, Eph3:10, Heb2:14-17, not angelic half-breeds.

These 'men of renown', Gen6:5, have always been among us, some Giants in stature, (warriors, tyrants) others as the word itself suggests: men of fame, reputation, high standing, the overabundance of big name false teachers such as Billy Graham, the Pope, DL Moody, Spurgeon, Finney, Calvin, Luther, Augustine, on and on. Many of these false teachers will use the Nephilim myth to claim that after this unholy mixing took place (angels and humans) man's DNA was corrupted to further exasperate his 'fallen nature in Adam, making him extremely wicked and even as a (supposedly) born again Christian he has to constantly struggle with the evil welling up inside him and often taking control. Pundits like Tex Marrs, Alex Jones, George Norry and others in the so-called 'Christian Patriot movement teach this non-sense, that way they can justify their pro-war stance and the God-Country angle. (and in Jones case, the H-man, alpha male image) These pundits constantly find prophetic significance in daily events and related them to isolated portions of Scripture and speak of physical manifestations of the Mark soon coming, all based on bringing the planet into a new age of justice and liberty for all, using Christ as their Standard.

The Jude 6-7 passage speaks again of angels leaving left their first estate and habitation and suffering God's Wrath, similar to Peter's Epistle, the same truths apply here as before, angels cannot procreate nor can they repent of any wrong doing, so why would this passage be any different. The angels who sinned, leaving their first estate (beginning) nor keeping their proper domain (habitation) were those who rebelled during the war in heaven, Rev12:7-12 and were cast down, Ezk28:11-17, with their leader Satan, Dragon, Lucifer. Jude is merely giving us a warning that God's Judgment will not tarry, He Judged the angels who sinned, He destroyed the sodomites and He will destroy you if you persist in your sin. As Jesus said; 'Remember Lot's wife!' Lk17:32, and He also equated this inner-marrying in the Days of Noah, Matt24:37-42 and the coming of the flood to take them all away to the last days preceding His coming. Marriage under the pretense of Christianity is very common among the professed, the Churches will marry anyone, even the abomination of same sex unions go on in the name of God! Can children reared in such environments grow up serving the One true God? The entirely of Scripture warns against this kind of mingling, serving other gods, going the way of Cain, running greedily after the error of Balaam (loving wages of unrighteousness) it always results in disaster and bondage, blaspheming the Way of Truth, twisting the Word of God. There is nothing in Scripture to validate fallen angels copulating with humans, such perversions come out of pagan philosophies, pharmakeia, the same mind-set that claims 'Christians can be demon possessed or see demons behind every stone. Of course we know that Norse and Greek mythology are full of stories about gods descending to earth, mating with humans creating Hercules type offspring and then manipulating their destiny. Even the book of Enoch has Giants 450 feet tall, as big as dinosaurs! The gullible and simple minded fall for this stuff and are merchandized by the false teachers.

Explaining how the supposed Nephilim showed up after the flood is a real problem for the true believers. (in this myth) If all mankind (except Noah's group) perished in the flood and there's no mention of this (imaginary) unholy union taking place again, why do the Giants (Nephilim) show up again in Moses time and onward. I suppose they could say that since angels can't drown (being supernatural beings) they must have secretly started the process over again after the decedents of Noah began to multiply or perhaps one of Noah's own sons was somehow infected by the corrupted DNA that had spread throughout humanity before the flood. Foolish speculations of course, but the question must be asked, HOW did the half-breeds (angel-human) survive the deluge and show up again generations later? By simple deduction we can eliminate the foolish and see that the 'sons of God' referees to those of the righteous line, reserved as the holy remnant to eventually bring forth the Messiah, as shown in the genealogy of Christ, Mat1:1-17, Lk3:23-38 the 'corruption came about in those who broke off from this righteous line and mingled with idol worshipping pagans. This is what brought about the flood, by Gen6 the righteous line had dwindled down to Noah, a 'son of God' who was perfect in his generation, God waited an additional 120 years, during the construction of Ark for the last of his line to pass away, Methuselah, before bringing in the flood, leaving Noah as the only remnant, with the eight. And again, as we come ever nearer to the end of this present world, the same warning applies:
For as in the DAYS before the flood, they did eat and drink, marry, and give in marriage, unto the day that Noah entered into the Ark, and knew nothing, till the flood came, and took them all away, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be! Matt24:38-39

As in the Days of Noah--so shall the coming of the Son of man be … its easy to miss the awesome significance in what the Lord said here: Evil, corrupt, murderous people (Giants, Mighty men, men of renown) have wrecked havoc of the earth for centuries on end, billions have perished and it seems there is no end in sight! They eat, drink, marry, give in marriage (the revilers, debauchery, death, destruction) how much worse does it have to get, WHAT is the Lord waiting for?? But what is it that occurred in the Days of Noah that has YET to occur in our time (or any time since)

the 'Righteous Remnant'… is still of sufficient number to delay the inevitable! Although the wickedness on earth is indeed extreme, and has been for a long, long time, there still remains many more than ONE Righteous person on earth. The Lord told Abraham that He would have spared Sodom if there could be found TEN Righteous people therein, so His return (final Judgment, end of world) will also be determined by this same Proportional balance between the Righteous and the wicked in an age where wickedness reaches critical mass. (Just my opinion, but something to think about)

The Lord's anger was directed toward men in Gen6, not angels. The Nephilim story makes an interesting science fiction adventure, but nothing more. True followers of Christ need to keep focused on the real battle and pull as many out of the fire as time allows. Our warfare is in the spiritual realm not the carnal (physical) against principalities, powers, the rulers of darkness in high places. The bottomless Pit is man's evil imaginations that will reach its zenith in the final days, the flood out of the mouth of the Dragon that covers the whole earth is what has taken the professed Church into apostasy, welling up beneath it is an assurgency of demons, evil spirits who have went forth to take possession of human souls for the final feast of devils. The earth will be destroyed by fire, dissolved as Scripture says, 2Pet3:10-12, the remnant followers of Christ know and look forward to these things, but the longsuffering of the Lord is Salvation, therefore be ever more diligent not to be taken captive by the spirit of error and stand fast in face of it all.
Remember that the Giants we face today are no match against the full armor of God.
