If Ye Continue!
This is not meant to be another debate against eternal security, just as a reminder of the condition nature of our salvation in Christ.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jh8:31-32

 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 1Jh2:24

to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister Col1:22-23

These and many other passages are expressed in what is called the Subjunctive mood of possibility and potentiality. The action described MAY or MAY NOT occur depending on circumstances, in other words Conditional on the person Abiding (continuing) in Christ. The Word Continue or Abide 'meno, means:
Remain, endure, dwell, hold, continually kept, last

Quoting a few cherry picked passages that 'seem to imply Salvation is eternal and unconditional, against the entire weight of Scripture is an infantile attempt to escape responsibility and foster an attitude of complacency. The people who do so are usually hard-core dogmatic indoctrinated minions parroting their favorite dark-light Pundit, who handle the Scriptures deceitfully to deceive the hearts of simple minded people.

Anyone who has come into the Faith through a genuine Repentance clearly understands the Conditional nature of  abiding in Christ. Mainly because his faith is based on Obedience to the Truth from the start, not in some 'notion that Christ's finished work has him covered. Such a person has already Produced Deeds Worthy of Repentance, Strived to enter the Narrow Gate, Counted the Cost, Taken up his Cross and Put his hand to the Plow. So there's no doubt in his mind that following Christ is dependent on his Continued Faithfulness and endurance to the end, no matter what the so-called theologians and pastors say.

The Aorist, Active, Subjunctive, Verb is used over 500 times in the NT expressing the possibility and potentiality of an action commanded that is always dependent on whether or not it is carried out and obeyed. 'Repent, Strive to enter, Take up your Cross, Sin no more, If you Keep My Word, all expressed with the Imperative of an absolute Command that requires FULL Obedience on the part of all hearers. Its not an invitation or a gift, as many imply, it’s a Command, contingent on your Free Will Choice to obey it or not! NOT 'desire to do it, TRUST that its done, but DO IT NOW or perish.

The direct Opposite of Subjunctive (conditional, possibility) is Indicative, a statement of facts, 'Christ died on the Cross for your sins', when you extend this mood of expression to imply 'because Christ died on the Cross for your sins, (a fact) The Reconciliation has already taken place, Sins are forgiven past, present and future, the ungodly are Justified and Salvation is sealed for all eternity, you Reverse the Gospel Message from active imperative to Obey into a Receive, Trust notion of facts. And this is what theology has done, cherry pick certain passages that state facts and  disregard the Subjunctive (conditional) nature of the facts stated. As 'Reconciliation, Rom5:10, 2Cor5:19,

'We were reconciled', 'Christ reconciled the world to Himself', The Fact: Christ's death on the Cross has provided all things necessary for the reconciliation of mankind to take place. The CONDITION, however (they ignore) is that man has YET to be Reconciled through repentance and faith! 2Cor5:20. It's not a Done Deal merely because Christ died on the Cross, you Trust in that and you're Saved. Its Subjunctive, something that may or may not occur dependent on circumstances; the Condition you Repent and Continue to follow Christ.

They do this with everything pertaining to Salvation; Sin is forgiven in advance, Faith is alone, Virtue is imputed and His finished work assures your outcome. No strings attached, so to speak, NOTHING you do or don't do has any bearing on your final destination. It’s a FACT that cannot be altered under any circumstances. Yet in Scripture your told time and again to: 'Work out, Make Sure, Run with endurance, Strive, Let no one deceive you, Guard, Keep yourself Pure, abstain from any appearance of evil, fight the good fight and finish the race. All Conditional on your active participation to carry out the Commands. The Responsibility rests solely on your Faithfulness from start to finish. The Free Gift charisma, is Remission of Past Sin, Rom3:25, the outcome of your Salvation is Yet to Reaped, in the age to come, always dependent on your faithfulness to the end. Titus3:7, Gal6:9-10, 1Pet1:9.

No where in Scripture will you find the free gift associated with eternal life, Rom5:15-18, 'The free gift is of many offenses'. The 'gift dorema, (bestowment) of eternal life, Rom6:23, is the reward given to those who endure to the end.

What they have done is remove the imperative of 'Continuing in the faith' for the Purpose of receiving the Prize of eternal life. 2Tim4:7, Phil3:14, 1Cor9:24. There is only ONE Prize, (Crown) not many, as the false teachers like to imply. John refers to this in his second Epistle, 2Jh8, 'Look to yourselves, that we do not LOSE those things we worked for, but that we have receive a full reward' The Reward is eternal life, how could there be a sliding scale of rewards in the Kingdom or lesser Saints clothed in White Linen? Such a notion contradicts itself, where do they get various levels of rewards out of this:
And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. Rev22:12-15

The HOPE of eternal life, Tit1:2, 3:7, is NOT the Assurance of it! As we look for the 'Blessed Hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ', it is YET to come. They use rhetorical logic to trick people and ask: 'Doesn't eternal mean eternal', meaning your eternal life in Christ begins NOW, when you believe, but such language in Scripture always expresses it as a HOPE!
Rom4:18, 5:2,4, 8:24-25, Gal5:5, Eph1:18, 4:4, Col1:5, 23, 27, 1Thes5:8, 1Tim1:1, Heb3:6, 6, 11, 19, 1Pet1:3, 13

'In hope of the glory of God', 'We are saved in this Hope', 'Rejoicing in Hope', 'Wait for the hope of righteousness by faith', 'The hope of His calling', 'The hope that is laid up for you in heaven', 'The hope of the gospel', 'Hope in our Lord Jesus Christ', 'The Hope of Salvation', 'The Hope of eternal life', 'Holding fast the confidence and rejoicing of the hope firm to the end', 'Having begotten us again to a lively hope', 'Gird up the lions of your mind, be sober and hope to the end', 'That your faith and hope might be in God', 'And every man that has this HOPE in him, purifies himself even as He is Pure!' 1Jh3:3

While the Church is sitting comfortably in their pews singing 'Blessed assurance' (not in scripture) defiled to the core, they are perishing without hope, worshipping an 'image conjured by the effective working of the dragon who has blinded them to the truth, they have happily exchanged for a Lie. It’s the inverse of reality, illusion and slight of hand in which the dark-light pundits cast their spells and the hypnotic trance takes hold. Those who fall prey to this Strong Delusion seldom escape because these lies are hammered into their brains 24/7, when the critical side of the brain shuts down all that remains is emotion, so the lie goes straight to the heart without question. Then anything in the Bible that cannot be reconciled in line with the Lie is either ignored or emotionally explained away in great swelling words of emptiness, flowery rhetoric, antics and a feel good style of chicanery that cancels out any analytical thought or analysis of what's being said. That's why they: 'Hear and cannot understand, See and cannot perceive and savor the doctrines of men over the Word of God'. (Matt13:14-15, 15:8-9) They have forfeited their ability to Reason.

The only thing the Professed Continue in is 'Sin, they can't imagine a 'Christian without sin and they take it for granted that when they do sin its automatically forgiven and under the blood. So Sin is no big deal, it has no eternal consequences after they've 'receive Jesus and whether they ever stop sinning or not it won’t affect the outcome of their salvation. Their only defense is the 'no one is perfect excuse, to imply that everyone is in some kind of sin and has no right to Judge anyone else. In this manner the Righteous are always a target for ridicule and scorn, counted as hypocrites in emotionally charged accusations that strengthens the hand of the wicked. The ungodly professed will always cry that 'God knows my heart, but their own ungodly behavior is a clear reflection of the defilement within, so of a TRUTH, God DOES Know their heart! And He will give to each according to their ways and according to the fruit of their doings. Jer17:11

God, who will render to each one according to his deeds: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. Rom2:6-11
